Backup camera issue leads to recall of nearly 383,000 Ford
The company is aware of 17 minor crashes involving the issue, but no injuries have been reported as a result.
DETROIT — An estimated 383,000 Ford SUVs are being recalled due a problem with the vehicle’s touch screens that may not show a camera image when backing up. According to the Associated Press, the recall impacts certain 2020 to 2023 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators, along with certain models of the 2020 to 2022 Lincoln Corsairs.
Some of the vehicles involved in the recall were previously recalled in 2021 for the same issue.
Documents published Friday regarding the recall state that the video output in impacted SUVs can fail which then prevents the rear camera image from being displayed on the touch screen. Without the image available it can reduce rear visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
Ford says it has received 2,000 warranty reports regarding the problem and is aware of 17 minor crashes as a result of the issue. However, no injuries have been reported in the crashes. Impacted owners will be notified via letter starting on Feb. 20.
To correct the issue, dealers will update the image processing software.
