Maruti Suzuki India achieves domestic sales milestone of 25 million

Maruti currently sells 17 models in India, including some best-sellers like the Alto, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Dzire, Ertiga and Brezza.

The Swift is one of the largest-selling cars of Maruti Suzuki India.

By Auto Today: Maruti Suzuki India, the subsidiary of Japanese auto major Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), has achieved domestic sales milestone of 25 million units since rolling out its maiden car, the Maruti 800, 40 years ago in 1983.

The country’s largest carmaker reached the milestone on January 9.

“Suzuki signed a joint venture agreement with Maruti Udyog, the predecessor of Maruti Suzuki in 1982 and rolled out its first car, Maruti 800, in December 1983,” SMC said in an official statement.

Maruti currently sells 17 models in India, including some segment-leaders like the Alto, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Dzire, Ertiga and Brezza. The company offers the CNG option in 14 models. It offers Grand Vitara with a strong hybrid powertrain.

“… Maruti Suzuki is strengthening its portfolio in the recently-growing SUV segment, while also making efforts in popularising hybrid and CNG models. The cumulative sales of hybrid and CNG models are approximately 2.1 million units,” SMC said.

Maruti’s SUV portfolio now includes four models — Fronx, Brezza, Jimny and Grand Vitara. The company showcased the Fronx and the Jimny at the Auto Expo 2023.

The automaker has over 3,500 new car sales outlets across the country.

Aug 2010 – Starts sales of CNG models
Feb 2012 – Achieves 10 million cumulative sales
Sep 2015 – Starts sales of hybrid models
July 2019 – Achieves 20 million cumulative sales
Feb 2022 – Achieves 1 million cumulative sales of CNG models
Jan 2023 – Achieves 25 million cumulative sales
